I listen to all kinds of music, but prefer folk-rock, acoustic laid-back kinda stuff. Kings of Convenience, Sufjan Stevens, Rilo Kiley and Nickel Creek are particular favourites, though my taste for Britpop still lingers on 15 years later through the love of The Coral and Cherry Ghost.
In the last 9 years Western-made music has taken a backseat to sounds from the land of the rising sun. I guess it’s somewhat strange that it’s taken bizarre warbling in an alien language to cultivate in me an interest in soul, reggae, dub and jazz but Japanese music is weird like that. One minute I’ll be grooving to the dancehall sound of PUSHIM and the next I’ll be chilling to the instrumental post-rock of Euphoria.
And I like to listen to the odd Chinese pop tune and have quite an interest in instrumentals (Gontiti, Oshio Kotaro) and anime-related music (won’t be mentioned here, I promise). Generally, I dislike rap, hip-hop and country music. There are a few exceptions like RIP SLYME but those are few and far between.
I’m not a consistent writer, but hopefully this blog will cover some of those weird aspects of my music interests.
